Your LOOP site is having its biggest CMS update yet, and you probably won't even notice.
That's the point.

This isn't the kind of update that comes with a redesigned homepage or a list of flashy new features. It won't look dramatically different day to day, and a few small things behind the scenes might take a moment to get used to. What it actually delivers is less visible, but more important.

What's happening?

Every couple of years, the CMS behind LOOP needs a major overhaul just to stay supported. LOOP is based on the Umbraco CMS, and we typically use what are call Long Term Support (LTS) versions.  

The previous LTS version (Umbraco 13) is reaching end of life in December 2026, so it's time for the next LTS version - Umbraco 17.

What's improved?

Unglamorous doesn't mean unimportant. Here's what this update actually brings:

• Years of extra security cover, so your site isn't exposed to newly discovered issues and can be patched quickly in the future.
• A faster, more efficient engine underneath, running on newer, better-supported technology.
• Smoother tools for anyone on your team who edits the site, built on a more modern editing experience.
• Room to grow, so higher volumes of content or a busier site doesn't slow things down.
• The first groundwork for AI-assisted tools, with the 'hooks' for this built straight into the CMS for us to tap into.

What it means for LOOP clients?

We've seen costs to upgrade to Umbraco 17 up to £15k. That's a cost that attractions could do without, and LOOP clients have got the upgrade to Umbraco 17 for free.

We like to keep things simple, so for attractions using Umbraco, with LOOP there's -

• No significant downtime to plan around (under 15 mins)

The bit nobody else offers

Most website owners only find out an update like this exists when their agency sends a big quote.

LOOP packages include the core feature releases, patches, maintenance, hosting and CMS support.  Attractions can get a flagship level website without the upfront costs and complexity.

If you're stuck on Umbraco 13 or an older version then now is a good time to upgrade (we'd argue that it's essential!). Switching to LOOP might be a more cost-effective route than upgrading your current Umbraco attraction website too, you'll get the CMS that you and your team already knows, along with a site that stays up-to-date for years to come.
