Data and security is a critical area for any business online. At Semantic we treat logins and client data with the utmost care and it is important that you and your team are following best practices.

Please ensure that you treat your website login (and any systems you use to access the website admin area / CMS) to the same level of dilegence as you would with a banking login.

Login security

  • Use STRONG passwords - we enforce a strong password policy on all CMS accounts, but as a reminder, passwords should be 25 characters or more, non dictionary words, use a mixture of uppercase, lowercase, letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Do not share passwords between services, you should use unique login details on each service.
  • If you become aware that a password has been compromised, reset it and alert us urgently.
  • Use a password manager so that passwords can be kept securely and are unique and hard to break
  • Use 2-factor or multi-factor authentication options on key services. This is available as an option in LOOP so we recommend all clients have this enabled.

System security

  • Make sure your devices are secure and up-to-date
  • Use virus software and make sure firewalls are enabled
  • Ensure your browser and any core software is updated, and set to auto-update
  • Ensure that your wifi / network is secure and that you have a secure connection to the server (via https).

Mindful computing

  • Be aware of phishing attempts and never share personal data or login information
  • Do NOT believe any email that's asking for you to login or to supply login details
  • Treat all emails, calls or contacts with scepticism, especially if you aren't able to verify their identify, or they're asking for personal data
  • Be aware that AI can be used to impersonate voices, sender email addresses and more, so if something seems 'off' it probably is.
  • Email is not secure, so send any sensitive files or information over an encrypted channel or shared drive

This is just a brief overview so that you can treat interactions online with a healthy dose of sceptism and make sure you stay as secure as possible.
